Dzień dobry. This is one of the first Polish phrases I learned, and it feels like a good way to start my story here. My name is Aylin, and I come from Türkiye, from Muğla—a beautiful city where the Aegean and Mediterranean regions meet. I would describe myself as a curious, emotional, and empathetic person. I love discovering new places, learning about different cultures, spending time in nature, and listening to people’s stories. I can be a little shy at first, but once I feel comfortable, I really enjoy talking, laughing, and sharing experiences. I think my interest in people and their feelings is one of the reasons why I chose to study psychology.

When I first saw this volunteering project, I felt that it was something I could truly connect with. I had already worked with children and people with special educational needs in rehabilitation centers, so the opportunity to volunteer at a special school in Kraków felt very familiar and meaningful to me. I remember thinking, “This is something I would really love to do.” I was excited to continue doing something I care about, but also to learn new things and experience a different way of working with children.

My first days in Kraków have been full of excitement, curiosity, and a few moments of uncertainty. The city is beautiful, with its historic streets, impressive buildings, and lively atmosphere. I especially enjoy walking around and discovering new places. Sometimes I miss home, and getting used to a new environment is not always easy. But every day brings something new, and I am slowly finding my own rhythm here.
I am also happy to be part of IB Polska. I hope this experience will help me learn new things, meet wonderful people, and see things from different perspectives. I know there will be difficult days, but I am ready to learn from them. I don’t know exactly what the next months will bring, but I am excited to find out. For now, I am here with a suitcase full of winter clothes, a mind full of questions, and a heart full of hope.
