And just like that, my European Solidarity Corps project has come to an end. From September to the end of June, I\u2019ve been living and volunteering in Krak\u00f3w, working in a local primary school \u2014 and what a ride it\u2019s been.<\/p>\n\n\n
\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n
I came here not really knowing what to expect. I didn\u2019t know the language, I didn\u2019t know the people, I didn\u2019t know how cold it could actually get in January (spoiler: very cold). I still can\u2019t pronounce \u201cprzepraszam\u201d without sounding like I\u2019m choking on a pretzel \u2014 but at least I\u2019ve learned that around here, effort counts more than grammar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Working in the school taught me a lot \u2014 about creativity, patience, improvisation, and the superhuman energy levels of children. I learned how to explain things with hand gestures, how to handle chaos with a smile, and how to stay calm when someone suddenly starts singing in the middle of a lesson (which, by the way, happens more often than you\u2019d think).<\/p>\n\n\n
\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n
Krak\u00f3w itself? A beautiful, charming, slightly chaotic city that grows on you day by day. Trams that sometimes cooperate, parks full of life, and a city center that looks like a fairy tale \u2014 until you realize you\u2019ve just walked 12,000 steps without noticing.<\/p>\n\n\n

And then there\u2019s the food. Let\u2019s just say\u2026 I\u2019ve never missed Italian cuisine more in my life. There are some Polish dishes that I\u2019ll remember fondly \u2014 and others that I\u2019ll remember as emotional trauma. But hey, at least I now know how to say \u201cI\u2019m full\u201d in Polish\u2026 mostly because I had to practice escaping the third round of pierogi at every gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Jokes aside, this year has been something special. I\u2019ve met incredible people, learned more than I could\u2019ve imagined, and felt part of something truly meaningful. Thank you to my hosting organization for the support, my colleagues at school for the warm welcome, and of course, the students \u2014 who made every day unpredictable in the best possible way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m heading home with lots of memories, a bit of extra luggage (mostly emotional, don\u2019t worry Ryanair), and a huge appreciation for this wild, unexpected, unforgettable adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
See you again, Krak\u00f3w. I don\u2019t know when \u2014 but I know I will.<\/p>\n\n\n
