Last Sunday, January 23rd, the 34th edition of “Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy” took place, which can be translated as “The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.” At the IB Polska office in Nowa Huta, we celebrated this special occasion with a Spanish-style party led by a volunteer from the European Solidarity Corps.
The day began with a creative workshop where participants made castanets using recycled materials. This activity allowed everyone to reproduce some of the most characteristic sounds of Spanish music. From the very beginning, the Spanish essence was present: inspiring Spanish songs played in the background, and we shared questions and curiosities about Spanish culture, creating a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.

Next, we continued with a flamenco class, where we learned basic steps that would allow anyone to feel comfortable dancing at the famous Feria de Sevilla. During the class, we also discovered different flamenco styles and types of sevillanas, as well as various ways of expressing the dance. At this point, we used the castanets we had previously made, which made the experience even more meaningful and fun.

After this activity and a short break, the best part of the day arrived: making tortilla de patatas. This iconic Spanish dish is not only a staple of Spanish cuisine but also an important cultural symbol, as preparing it often becomes a moment of gathering with family or friends.
We got straight to work: first peeling and slicing the potatoes, then preparing the onions, and finally starting the cooking process. While making the tortillas, we shared cooking tips, personal tricks, and even some traditional Polish recipes. It was a lovely moment of cultural exchange, discovering similarities and differences between Spanish and Polish traditions.

Finally, the most anticipated moment arrived: tasting the tortilla to see if it was actually good. And of course, it was delicious, just like in Spain.
Most importantly, we spent a wonderful time sharing cultures, both Spanish and Polish, and together we created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone left happy and with a very good taste in their mouths, literally and figuratively.
¡Muchas gracias!
