I’m a volunteer from Spain and one of the tasks in Krakow is running language lessons in different community centers. I mainly teach Spanish and English, focusing on different levels and age groups.
One of my Spanish lessons takes place at the Multicultural Centre in Zabłocie. It is designed for seniors who have an intermediate level. In these classes they learn some more advanced grammar and vocabulary while they also practice their speaking. Finally, a unique part of these meetings is that they love music. So, at the end of every lesson, we play some Spanish songs that they study and sing.

Another one of my lessons takes place at the Senior Centre, where I teach beginner-level English and Spanish to seniors. These classes are more challenging because we don’t share a common language so sometimes, we struggle to communicate. However, I try to make the lessons interactive using as many images as possible, so they feel comfortable and engaged.
I also run Spanish conversation lessons at the IB Polska w Hucie. These sessions are open to people of all ages, though most of the participants are seniors. Since it’s more focused on speaking, we have discussions on different topics, and I help them improve their fluency. It’s a more relaxed environment compared to the structured grammar lessons, which makes it really enjoyable.

Once every two months, I visit another Senior Centre where they already have Spanish lessons, and I assist the coordinator with grammar explanations and exercises. I also gave a presentation about Spain, where I talked about the culture, traditions, and daily life. It was a great experience to share a bit of my country with them.
Teaching these lessons has been a really nice experience. I’ve learned a lot about my own language, and it is really rewarding seeing the progress of my students.
