My name is Weronika and not so long ago I finished my project within the European Solidarity Corps programme. The organisation IB-Polska supervised and coordinated my stay abroad. My experience with ESC took place in Malta, and I was involved in socialising with people with intellectual disabilities. I worked with the Maltese governmental organisation Agenzija Sapport especially with Sharing Lives team.

My duties consisted of organising workshops, events and variety of activities for people with special needs. In that time, I wrote “Move to Groove” project, which consisted of physical activation and the integration of my project members. I guided them through climbing training, frisbee and trekking.

Meanwhile, I also helped with projects of other team members. I conducted artistic classes on making ecological soap, which was later given at the ball for Agenzija Sapport volunteers. I also led Life skills classes, helping people with special needs develop daily living tasks such as ironing, communication, assertiveness training etc. Working with Sharing Live has given me a great feeling of agency as I received feedback from one of the parents from my group who shared that, thanks to my classes, their son became more self-sufficient and started using city communication in order to get to my classes.

It was my first experience with ESC and my first opportunity to go abroad and live in another country. It has taught me many things. Above all, gaining work experience in which I had agency and independence, staying abroad and learning a different culture. This is a memory which will stay with me for a long time.
