On the 27th of February, our group of volunteers gathered in Nowa Huta for our monthly Thursday Meeting. It was a special day because it happened to be Fat Thursday (last Thursday before Lent).

First, for breakfast we ate Pączki filled with rose and sour cherry. They were delicious! After that we cooked some handmade faworki. We split ourselves into two groups, one vegan and the other one non-vegan. Both doughs were really tasty and we covered the pastries with powdered sugar. The majority of us liked the vegan faworki more than the non-vegan but the preparation for the vegan ones was more difficult because the dough was quite sticky.
During the day, we followed this recipe and step-by-step procedure to make faworki, carefully preparing the dough, rolling it out thinly, cutting and shaping each piece by hand, and finally frying them to a perfect golden crisp before covering them with powdered sugar.
After lunch, we started the second activity of the day – Karaoke. Everybody sang a lot of songs from different countries and some of us even sang in different languages. It was a nice way to discover new music, genres and popular songs from around the world. We ended the day singing Małgośka which is the song that we have been learning in our Polish lessons.
