hello! it’s Fanni, a volunteer for Fundacja IB Polska. My project is ending soon, after a little more than half a year. I guess I should talk about my experience, what I learnt during my stay here, so here it is…

A huge jump:

It’s hard to start this article; so many things happened, so many people I met, so many feelings I feel about this. This was the first time when I lived in another country; my first time when I was away for a long time from my family & friends; my first time when I had to really take care after myself; my first time working and not in part-time

So, it was a huge change for me, but indeed, this is why I came here, to experience something new. In the end I think I can say I succeeded, for the reason of:

Gaining useful skills in my volunteering:

I could work in a really supportive environment. I could develop my skills in coordinating, organizing, teaching, public speaking and in taking responsibility. One of my favourite activities were the english conversations club; the little group became friendlier and we could discuss some interesting topics. Furthermore, I had the chance to work on some amazing projects, ones that I really enjoyed, and attend fabulous events made by my organization.

Making life-long friends & memories:

Probably, that I’m most grateful about are the people I met along the way. I had some amazing coordinators, who supported me, and whom I could learn so much from; the people I could work with, my english club pupils, and the lovely kids. The different & different people I met and could talk to. And of course, the friends that I found here. I can say I was pretty lucky, cause I know that most of these friendships will carry on. But even if it’s not, I’m eternally grateful for them, for making my stay here the absolute best as it could be.

How Fanni changed:

I feel like I changed a lot and probably it is in accordance with all this newness that happened, that I had to adapt to all the situations, and of course, that I stepped out of my comfort zone. Thankfully, I could deal with any obstacle that I run into while I was here. I opened up and now I see the world more colourfully 🙂

Lastly, the special places, events I had the chance to visit, and Kraków, the city where the entire magic took place. All those memories I can bring with myself home, and for the rest of my life. After all, I think I can say it out loud and proud that I made the best decision of my life.

Thank you!
