On Thursday, 13 November, the volunteers of IB Polska gathered for a Canva workshop guided by Kristina, who opened the door to a world where design becomes both craft and language. Throughout the session, she revealed ideas that illuminated new ways of shaping our presentations with intention and creativity.
We began by delving into the essence of composition and layout, how each element finds its place, how balance emerges, and how a design can be transformed from many angles, each reflecting the creator’s unique vision. There is no single perfect choice; instead, clarity often blooms when we simplify, allowing the message to breathe. This was one of the quiet truths that surfaced during the workshop.
Colour, too, played a central role. We explored the colour wheel and the surprising harmony that can arise from thoughtful combinations. We learned to pay attention to the tones already living within images and photographs, guiding us toward palettes that feel unified and alive. And we were reminded that a slide overloaded with details can scatter the viewer’s gaze, while a focused composition invites them to follow the story with ease.

Typography added another layer to this creative journey. Using no more than two complementary typefaces helps maintain coherence, letting the words flow without competing for attention,a gentle balance between personality and readability.
These concepts, though simple at first glance, form the backbone of meaningful visual communication. They are skills we will carry with us not only throughout our volunteer work, but also in countless moments beyond it, each presentation an opportunity to weave clarity, colour, and creativity into something that speaks to others.
