New volunteering project opportunity „Dive into heritage" (10 months – Septemeber 2018 – June 2019)

 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Currently we are looking for volunteers interested in work with kids and youngsters in few host organisation and also one volunteer to work in our office. Projects will start in September 2018 and will finish in June 2019.

Project „Dive into the Heritage" will take place in Cracow. Project will be an occasion for mutual dialogue of elements which has shaped for centuries European culture. One of the goal is to promote deeper understanding of diversity and richness of cultural heritage of Europe. Daily responsibilities of volunteers will be work in educational institutions.

Our host organisations (more information you can find below):

1) Special School complex nr 11 (working with kids and youngsters with disabilities, assisting teachers and therapists during and after classes)

2) Integrational School in Waganowice (working with kids and youngsters with disabilities, assisting teachers and therapists during and after classes)

3) Internationaler Bund Polska (assisiting in the office, helping in organizing intergational meetings for volunteers, preparing materials like photos, videos, blog posts)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

We want volunteers to get to know better their own cultures and their richness, as well as be aware what individual cultures bring to European culture. We want them to discover common elements as well as unique values of each nation's culture. We want them to be aware that cultures of our nations where created in process of meeting with "Others" that's why we plan meetings with minorities living in Cracow. To build gratitude to older generation for transmitting to us cultural heritage we plan to meet with seniors.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

Volunteer will receive food allowance & pocket money, will be accommodated in shared room (with access to kitchen and bathroom) with other EVS volunteers from our projects in Krakow. Volunteer will get monthly ticket for trams and buses in Krakow (including the workplace to the residence, the whole city, night buses). Travel costs from/to home countries will be reimburse to the limit according to Erasmus+ calculator.

TRAINING DURING THE PROJECT

1) On-arrival training in Warsaw - Polish National Agency (6 days)

2) Mid-term training in Torun - Polish National Agency (5 days)

3) Polish language course provided by Coordinating organisation. Course will be held by professional Polish as a foreign language teacher. Duration of the course depends on the length of the project. As a coordinating organization, we will provide other opportunities to practice Polish (tandem meetings etc.).

Organisation description: Volunteers will assist teachers and therapist at Special Educational School No 11, working with children and youth with diversified types of mental and physical disability. School has two branches consisting of primary school, secondary school and vocational school. Both branches address their offer to the mentally and physically challenged students. During various classes pupils learn how to deal with the daily life and overcome upcoming obstacles.

Volunteer's activities will be adjusted to one's profiles and fields of interest, thus the project will result with high satisfaction of achieved learning outcomes. During the project volunteers will acknowledge various methods of therapy and working with disabled, will receive practical experience in daily assistance of disabled in the hosting organisations, will realize their own projects and will significantly increase their cross-cultural competences. Volunteers will be helping in educational process with supervision of teachers; usually our volunteers help in feeding our disabled students, support them during lessons and activities; help teachers prepare lessons and educational materials, care for order and cleanness in the school.

Volunteer profile:
Experience in work with children and youth will be an additional asset, however it is not compulsory. Good communicational skills are also and additional asset because the project is based on communication with other people. All creative skills - artistic or motor skills – can enrich the project. The same relates to computer skills. Volunteers should be open-minded and sensitive towards needs of others. Due to the nature of the target group and special focus on work with children/young adults with disabilities, volunteer should not be afraid of disabled kids/youngsters and their reactions.

Organisation description:
The School in Waganowice includes Pre-school unit, Public Primary School, Public Middle School and Special Vocational School for Future Employment. All departments are focused on integration, furthermore some special classes are launched. For pupils with disabilities we organize early support and for students with deep disability we provide educational and rehabilitation classes at home, taking in consideration their contact with their peers in school. About 200 students (including 70 disabled) attend this seemingly small rural school.
Age group: 5 - 24

Host description:
IB Polska is a nongovernmental organization running social projects in Cracow and Tychy and realizing projects within the Erasmus+ framework. IB Polska is active as the EVS sending, hosting and coordinating organization. On average IB Polska is coordinating 25 volunteers being all the time in touch with our partners and hosting organizations.

Volunteer's activities:
Volunteer will assist the European project team, while organizing workshops, cultural and integrational meetings and will support the organization in promotion of the activities undertaken by EVS volunteers. He/she will also assist or organize EVS promotional events in cooperation with regional partners. He/she will interact with the other volunteers in daily basis. One task is to visit the partner organizations to create a short documentary of the volunteers work (i.e. photo exhibition, running our blog, taking care of our fb page, recording a movie or making interviews). All activities will be based on teamwork and at the same time volunteer will be encouraged to develop own projects.

Volunteer profile:
Candidate for this vacancy should be interested in photography or at least have a basic knowledge on it. Video editing and making and basic design skills is also welcomed! Previous experience of managing social media projects would be an asset. We are looking for creative person with self-initiative, who enjoys working in an international team.
